Design

My research engages with design in two ways: through publications that extend design theory and through the creation of objects and prototypes that are used and reflected on.

Software prototype for visualizing and comparing multiple versions of a text (e.g., two editions of a novel). Uses topic modeling and principal component analysis to visualize similarity. Built in Processing.

Poetry Visualizations Poetry visualization prototype built in Processing.

My Life Visualization Visual edition of two versions of Lyn Hejinian’s My Life. Uses string comparison to reveal patterns and motifs across the texts. Built with D3.js. Reflective essay and interactive edition published in Scholarly Editing.

Tender Buttons book Tender Buttons book Interactive edition of Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons. Published with Monofonus Press and used as a classroom intervention in a study presented at the iConference. Companion site. Austin Chronicle Review.
